Support us

We are so grateful for the expertise and care of our board of trustees. With backgrounds in education, social work, innovation, operations, and frontline support services, they bring important knowledge and perspectives that guide and strengthen our work.

Alice Rose Jessop – Trustee

Alice is a director and facilitator with over eight years’ experience working in education. Her practice is rooted in a belief in the transformative power of theatre, the importance of amplifying young people’s voices, and creating pathways into careers in the theatre industry.

For the past five years, Alice has worked as Participation and Learning Officer at Oxford Playhouse, where she has led the development and delivery of creative education programmes for schools across Oxfordshire. She holds a BA (Hons) in Drama and Theatre and an MA in Shakespeare from Royal Holloway, University of London.

Alice is also a committed advocate for greater awareness of invisible illnesses and disabilities, working to ensure creative spaces are accessible, empathetic, and inclusive.

“Being a trustee for Justice in Motion has been rewarding to me as it has allowed me to be a small part of creating safe spaces where creativity can thrive and support social justice. It’s exciting to see projects that are amplifying voices that tackle serious youth violence and making a real positive impact on young people in Britain.”

Matt Francis Co-Chair of Trustees

Matt has over 15 years’ experience across charity leadership, science and innovation with a strong focus on social impact. He is Head of Science and Technology at Oxford Innovation Space, where he supports innovation ecosystems and start-ups across the UK.

Originally a sound engineer and production manager, Matt studied Biochemistry at the University of Bath before moving into senior charity leadership roles, including delivering the £13.5m Stansfeld Park project for The Oxford Trust. He continues to balance strategic leadership with hands-on delivery.

“Though I may not be on stage, being a trustee is my way of furthering Justice in Motion’s mission. I fundamentally believe the arts are the most effective vehicle for driving real-world social impact, and as a trustee I get to perform in my own way”

Sarah McCalla – Trustee

Sarah has a background in operations and project management across both the private and charity sectors, with a longstanding passion for social justice and the performing arts.

She began her career managing an arts training programme for young people and now works at a national domestic abuse charity, supporting projects that centre the voices of those with lived experience. Sarah lives in Bristol and enjoys the city’s creative and outdoor life.

Hugh Bendor-Samuel – Trustee

Hugh holds a First Class Honours degree in PPE and an MSc in Politics of Conflict, Rights and Justice from SOAS. His career combines academic insight with frontline experience supporting people affected by homelessness, displacement, and exploitation.

After working at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, Hugh became a Support Worker at St Mungo’s and volunteered with refugees and internally displaced people in northern Iraq. He now works at Migrant Help, supporting survivors of modern slavery.

“Our last team day reinforced how impactful the work Justice In Motion does and reminded me what a privilege it is to support those working at the coalface. It was wonderful to hear diverse voices contribute to discussions around what makes Justice In Motion what it is and what it strives to be”

Joni has over 20 years’ experience in education, including roles as Head of Drama and Special Educational Needs Coordinator across mainstream, specialist, and alternative provision settings. She is deeply committed to inclusive, high-quality theatrical opportunities for all young people.

Alongside her professional career, Joni has volunteered extensively with faith-based social justice charities and is excited to bring together her passions for theatre, education, and advocacy through Justice In Motion.

“Serving as a trustee for Justice in Motion allows me to contribute to a theatre company that uses creativity as a force for social change – challenging exploitation, awakening empathy, and giving voice to those who are too often unheard. It is an honour to play a small part in supporting its impact”

Together, our trustees provide strategic guidance, safeguarding, and support that enables our artistic and social mission to thrive.

Their collective experience and shared values help ensure that Justice In Motion continues to create bold, impactful theatre that amplifies unheard voices and drives meaningful social change.
