Marieke is a Marie Curie research fellow at the International Migration Institute (IMI) at the University of Oxford. Her research looks at the links between migration, conflict and change. Her research has taken her to a diversity of research settings on migration around the world, including Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Burundi, DR Congo, Iraq, Pakistan, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tunisia and Vietnam. As the research director of CONTAINED, Marieke explored ways to create dialogue between academic insights, lived experiences and public opinions about migration through performance arts. The insights and personal stories that she collected over the last decade were the basis of the performance. The dialogue created with the performance was the input for new research on public opinion on migration. As a certified facilitator (joker) of participatory theatre and an experienced improvisation actor, she facilitated the discussions.
