Junior Cunningham

Performer

Junior always enjoyed movement and from a very early age started to copy and mimic street dancers, break dancers and the likes of James Brown. His older sister therefore enrolled him onto a Btec national diploma in performing arts, where he was introduced to contemporary dance. Both ballet and contemporary were completely alien to him but once introduced to Limón there was something about the freedom and flow that connected with him.

He then went on to study at The Northern School of Contemporary Dance where he continued ballet training and developed a much deeper knowledge of contemporary, studying Graham, Cunningham, Alexander, as well as Release based techniques in his final year.

After graduating, he started an apprenticeship with Motionhouse and then became a full company member. Throughout his time with the company he has traveled the world performing, teaching & creating work. He’s had the opportunity to perform on large scale performances as well as very small intemperate shows, performing both on stage and outdoors. For the past few years he has stepped back from performing to concentrate on his role as Rehearsal Director, a position he’s held at Motionhouse for several years.

Junior is a performer/choreographer in MOVING TOGETHER.
